Flat Classroom, Flat Word: Best Practices for Web 2.0 In Education



Part 1 - Brainstorm, Create Artifact 9:45 - 10:35



Team Guidelines:


  • We will have 3 person teams for this project (1 4 person team) - 4 teams
  • A team may not all be from one location.
  • Each Team should elect a project manager.. This person works with the entire team to make sure that they brainstorm, discuss, and share information about the tools. This person is the facilitator and leader, but not the dominator and does not have to be the one to give the speech.
  • Each team member should have a laptop or up to 2 members can share a laptop.

Assignment:

  • Each team is assigned a Web 2.0 tool to research and explain on the wiki.
  • Each team will develop a 2 minute "elevator speech" to explain this tool and "pitch" the use of the tool in the classroom.
  • Teams will elect one person to give the speech in Part 2.

Part 2 - Elevator Speech Activity 10:35 - 11:00


  1. Each team will send a member to go to the other tables to deliver an "elevator speech" or "pitch" to explain and sell their web 2.0 tool.
  2. The other 2 team members will remain at the table to hear the elevator speech of the other groups.
  3. Every person will vote on the best elevator speech delivered and CANNOT vote on their own team.

  • Can and should this approach be used with teachers?
  • Can and should this approach be used with students?
  • How can this method of teaching be improved?

  • What affect on learning and teamwork does having a diverse group have?
  • How did you feel about a student facilitating?
  • What did you learn from this process?
